Bilateral security, political and economic cooperation, as well as coordination of activities related to the war in Ukraine were among the topics of Tuesday’s meeting between Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Italian President Sergio Mattarella. Earlier, on Monday evening, the Italian president’s wife met with Poland’s first lady, Agata Kornhauser-Duda.
Matarella’s talks with the head of the Polish government
President Mattarella has been in Poland on an official visit since Sunday; Monday he spoke with President Andrzej Duda. On Tuesday he met with the head of the Polish government, Mateusz Morawiecki.
The talks focused on topics related to bilateral security, political and economic cooperation, as well as coordination of activities related to the war in Ukraine

Common trade and a vision of the future of Europe
In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Morawiecki expressed his satisfaction that “trade between our countries is flourishing and that both countries have a convergent vision of the future of Europe”.
Mattarella also scheduled a meeting with the President of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, and with the President of the Senate, Tomasz Grodzki.
In the afternoon, the Italian president – who is staying in Poland with his daughter – goes to the former German camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. As previously reported by the Italian side, he will lay a wreath there in front of the wall of executions; he will also visit the museum and participate in the closing ceremony of the “March of the Living” with his daughter.
Meeting with the first ladies
The day before, on Monday evening, the wife of the Italian president met with the first lady of Poland, Agata Kornhauser-Duda.
As reported by the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, the wife of the Polish president and the daughter of the Italian president visited the Royal Łazienki Park in Warsaw on Monday, “talking about aid initiatives for Ukrainians residing in both countries and in their homeland.”
The ladies exchanged experiences of more than a year of support for war victims in Ukraine, talked about the effects of various projects and ongoing aid initiatives in both countries

Agata Kornhauser-Duda thanked her interlocutor for supporting Ukrainian orphans who found safe shelter in Italy, as well as sick children who continue their treatment in Italian hospitals.
An important topic discussed during the meeting was the long-term steps to ensure the independence of refugee women in the countries of their residence and the education of children.
