Donald Tusk’s famous electoral trick, which he constantly uses before every election – namely to emphasize the high prices when his opponents rule – this time met with strong reactions on the internet. The public has noticed that the former prime minister always opts for the most expensive food products possible.
Donald Tusk doesn’t change, but Poland and the times we live in do change. Once the leader of the Civic Platform threatened Poles with the prices of poultry, bread and dairy products – it was during the 2007 election campaign. Now the prices of vegetables are on the agenda. The chairman of the PO, who was on a “business visit” to the market in Myszków district, bought tomatoes for PLN 34 per kilo. This, of course, was to show how badly the Polish economy was managed by the PiS government, as basic food products have such exorbitant prices.
However, attentive social media observers did not miss the fact that the Civic Platform leader chooses the most expensive products available on the market.
Tusk wants to become Prime Minister of Poland, but he cannot buy tomatoes cheaply, he pays 34 PLN per kilo while you can buy them for 10 PLN. It should come as no surprise that we also paid the most for gas in Europe
All in all, it will come as no surprise to anyone that the leader of the Civic Platform, who has been receiving an EU salary for years and now an EU pension, can afford to buy tomatoes for PLN 34 per kilo. On the other hand, making policy at a time when social media can verify such treatments in under a minute shows a lot of naiveté or – oh yes! – backwardness of Donald Tusk.
