The changing world brings many threats, eg easy access to inappropriate content. This must be responded to, coordinated actions are necessary in the interests of children and young people, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and President of the Sejm Elżbieta Witek stressed in the Sejm on Friday.
The head of government and the marshal participated in a meeting organized as part of the activities “Let’s protect children, let’s support parents”.
Elżbieta Witek recalled that on March 24, experts, teachers, doctors, representatives of non-governmental organizations, local government officials and other people involved in helping children in the face of problems and threats of the modern world gathered in the Sejm .
The meeting under the motto “Let’s protect children, support parents” was also attended by government representatives: Minister of Family and Social Policy Marlena Maląg, Minister of Education and Science Przemysław Czarnek, and Deputy Ministers of: Education and Science Marzena Machałek, Health Waldemar Kraska and Internal Affairs and Administration Blazej Poboża.
I know that the government is doing a lot to help Polish youth and children. (…) I wanted to organize today’s meeting in such a way that the Prime Minister, as head of government, can hear what problems we discussed at the meeting on 24 March, what conclusions were drawn from them
Marshal noted.
She stressed the need for joint actions, “as the physical and mental condition of our children and young people is unfortunately deteriorating, we notice that.”
Youth and children are our future, so we should spend time on this topic. This conference, this meeting on March 24 showed that such talks and such coordination are really necessary
Witek said.
In many cases, the conclusions are already being implemented by individual ministries, as she indicated.
I hope that we will soon be able to present specific solutions that will support children and young people and also parents
she added.
Education is a very difficult art, education rests primarily on parents, but it is the duty of the school, as well as institutions working with young people, to support parents in the education of their children. This is the goal of the campaign “Let’s protect children, let’s support parents”
she pointed it out.
The role of the internet, smartphones, the virtual world
The prime minister judged that many problems faced by societies, not only in Poland, but also in other countries, are “related to the pandemic, the changing role of the internet, smartphones and the virtual world”.
A significant part of young people’s activity is transferred to the virtual world, which, he says, is not always good.
That is why, as part of the Council of Ministers, we have developed a law to help protect children and young people from pornographic content, content that is highly inappropriate
noted Morawiecki.
Therefore, he added, additional psychologists and child educators were appointed in schools.
Morawiecki thanked Marshal Witek for meeting and coordinating activities.
A few weeks ago I had a meeting with the Parent Council. The activities are fully coherent. Now we are going to speed up legislation on all possible fronts
– he said.
All this, he said, to protect children and support parents in their parenting efforts.
