The Council of Ministers has approved the “Shield for the Border Region” – announced the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration Maciej Wąsik on Friday at a meeting of the parliamentary committee for internal affairs and administration.
How long did it take to get approval from the EC?
On January 26, 2023, the European Commission approved the Polish government’s aid program under the working name “Shield for the Border Region” with a budget of €21 million.
Wąsik said the process of obtaining permission from the European Commission took a year.
Here we have (…) an already adopted resolution of the Council of Ministers, which has legal force, on the government program “Shield for the Border Region”
– said Wąsik as he presented the document.
The money goes to companies from the Polish-Belarusian border area
The information previously provided shows that the money will be used to help companies from the Polish-Belarusian border area, in particular large hotels that could not take full advantage of the compensation for the tourism industry approved by the Polish parliament in connection with the introduction of a state of emergency on the border with Belarus and then a residence ban. Hotels could not receive compensation because they exceeded the level of government support (so-called de minimis), having previously used government support in the implementation of other projects, for example investments.
