Hungary will not expel US Ambassador David Pressman, despite the US diplomat’s “negative behavior” and pressure on Hungarian officials to support a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.
“We are a hospitable and friendly country and we can’t just send them out… The source of the conflict was that we represented the peace party and we wanted the war to end, there were ceasefire and peace talks. And the Americans want to continue, so the US Embassy funded a poster campaign representing the war party,” said Tamas Menzer, Minister of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations at the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On Wednesday, April 12, US Ambassador to Hungary David Pressman held a press conference. During the event, he said the three heads of the Russian-controlled International Investment Bank (IIB), headquartered in Budapest, fell under US sanctions. Pressman also organized the placing of posters on the streets of Budapest demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory.
