The People’s Party stepped into the ring from the basketball courts the same morning and staged a coup, announcing that it had signed for the city of Alicante and Elda, two of the leading names in the sports world. In the case of Alicante, it is the first signature announced by the PP for the Alicante municipality list. Luis Barcala, mayor and People’s Party re-election candidate, announced that Toni Gallego, CEO of CF Intercity and chairman of the Lucentum Foundation, has joined its organization as an independent. Born in Alicante (1975), Gallego holds a degree in Economics from UA and a Masters in Portfolio Management from the Options and Futures Institute. According to the public curriculum, he was also the manager of investment and pension funds at Gestora CAM. His personal and professional career has been associated with sports. He was actually a professional basketball player. He has chaired the Lucentum Foundation since 2015 and has served as CEO of CF Intercity since the end of 2021 on the occasion of the merger of both organizations. Gallego is the first name approved by Barcala PP for the 28M municipal candidacy, which is expected to be a bumpy renewal, although the number it will invade is not yet clear.
Another interesting thing about this announcement is that Gallego’s signature became known weeks after Socialist mayor Ana Barceló independently added Hercules’ living history Eduardo Rodríguez to his list.

Elda People’s Party’s mayoral candidate Francisco Sánchez announced the name of the person who will come in second place on his list. This is Felipe Martínez Martínez, the current president of the Royal Spanish Boxing Federation, which he has led since 2016.
For the candidacy, Francisco Sánchez highlighted a few details about Martínez’s profile that struck him as interesting: that he had received academic and professional training, that he had served in a public institution, and that he was obviously from Elda.
Felipe Martínez has a degree in Criminology from the University of Alicante and is pursuing a master’s degree in High Performance Sports. Professionally, he is an off-duty policeman and is currently approaching his second term as president of the Royal Spanish Boxing Federation. “I had no plans to devote myself to politics, but seeing Paco Sánchez’s project was very encouraging. “I find working for this city very exciting and I think Elda deserves a change.”
Francisco Sánchez said: “It’s great for us to have someone with proven management capacity in the industry who works at a national institution and acts through international institutions.
