We must stop the inflow of grain from Ukraine and start with the maximum possible outflow of grain from Poland, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Robert Telus, said on Polish Radio’s program III. He added that he had an idea to distribute this grain throughout Europe.
As the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development noted during the program on Polish Radio’s Program III, the influx of grain from Ukraine is not only a problem for Poland, but “especially for the frontline countries” – Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic.
Agricultural unions from these countries are protesting against the import of grain from Ukraine
he said.
According to the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, “Today we must stop the inflow of grain (from Ukraine – PAP) and maximize the possible outflow of grain from Poland.”
Telus ruled that the EU is slow to act and therefore “wouldn’t count on this kind of EU aid”.
We must find markets ourselves and export this grain from Poland, sell it on markets
– he said.
He assured that “there are some ideas” on the matter.
This is our goal that we must achieve
– added.
The European Union works very slowly, we have to find markets ourselves and simply export the grain from Poland, sell the grain to markets
said Robert Telus
The minister said that on Tuesday, under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin, and on behalf of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, the crisis staff will meet at the age of 16, which “will consist of all ministers who can assist in this”. Telus explained that he meant the minister of infrastructure, foreign affairs, state property, representatives of the health ministry.
Cereal regulations
When asked if it would be appropriate to introduce rules at EU level that “block” the entry of Ukrainian grain into EU territory, he replied: “I don’t think block, but regulate.”
I have an idea to contact all agriculture ministers of 5 countries (including Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic – PAP) and recommend it to these ministers
he said.
He explained that it was about “the idea of regulating and distributing this grain in Europe so that it wouldn’t be in 4-5 countries where it is currently, but would be distributed all over Europe.”
When asked how we can help our farmers who are concerned about the influx of poultry and eggs from Ukraine to the Polish market, he said: “We will monitor these products very closely so that they flow more slowly to Poland.” However, he noted that this is not the main goal.
The main goal is the health and safety of the Poles
he noticed.
Telus claimed that he cares about agricultural matters.
I will do everything I can to be with the Poles at this time, especially with the Polish peasants, in this very difficult war situation
he stressed.
Agreements with Ukrainians
He added that he would meet farmers’ representatives on Tuesday “in a small town between Lublin and the eastern border”.
As he recalled, at Friday’s meeting with the Ukrainian Minister of Agriculture, it was agreed that “no grain will flow to Poland for the harvest, which will be unloaded in Poland. It will only transport grain. We have raised the issue of grain flow to Poland. He pointed out that fraud, such as leaving grain in Poland, will lead to fines and that the transit will be controlled by both the Polish and Ukrainian sides. He added that according to the announcements made by the Ukrainian side, a company cheating in this way will lose its license to export goods from Ukraine.
If we managed to export about 3-4 million tons from Poland before the harvest, we could make it after the harvest at that time, the main thing is to prepare the place. Of course we cannot sell all the grain, because we have to ensure food security, because you don’t know what happens in wartime. After all, we remember that less than a year ago all agricultural organizations, but not only all economists, appealed to the government, appealed to the fact that we would run out of grain.
Telus noticed.
Robert Telus, appointed by the president as the new minister of agriculture, met with the minister of agricultural policy and food of Ukraine, Mykola Solski, on Friday in Dorohusk. After the meeting, he announced that the Ukrainian side “has submitted a proposal to very severely limit the arrival of grain to Poland for some time and even to stop it completely for the time being”. Telus stressed that the transit of grain from Ukraine through Poland “will be very closely monitored by both the Polish and Ukrainian sides, so that the grain does not remain in Poland.”
On Saturday, the State Agency for Strategic Reserves announced that it had started buying consumer wheat exclusively from Polish producers. You can bid until April 14.
