The media writes that today the northern part of Israel is exposed to rocket fire from Lebanese territory. Several dozen missiles were fired, most of which were stopped.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, at least 34 rockets were fired into the Western and Upper Galilee (the regions bordering Lebanon in the north of the country). Of these, 25 were blocked by the Iron Dome air defense system. 5 rockets fell on Israeli territory, more information is given about 4 rockets.
The air raid alert was announced at around 14:30 Moscow time. It is known that one person received a shrapnel wound near the city of Maalot-Tarshiha. Later, the Israeli ambulance service reported that there were three victims: a man was injured by fragments of a falling rocket, and a woman was injured on her way to the shelter. The other woman is in shock.
Citing sources, Reuters said that Palestinian groups were behind the bombing, but Lebanese Hezbollah was not involved in them. The agency did not specify which groups were responsible for the strike.
Later, referring to the Lebanese security service, RT Arabic reported that there were rocket launchers in the country that fired bullets at Israel.
Lebanon launched an investigation to find out who was behind dozens of missile launches at Israel. The secret services found missile facilities in southern Lebanon, where the strikes were carried out, ”the statement said.
The Israelis who witnessed the rocket attack themselves described it as “the strongest since 2006, when the war with Hezbollah was launched.” They noticed that the air raid sirens weren’t working at first for some reason.
After the rocket attack, the Israeli army took off its warplanes and responded with air strikes on Lebanese territory. Their results are not specified. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held an emergency operations meeting with the leadership of law enforcement.
The rocket attack occurred on the backdrop of another conflict between Israeli law enforcement and Muslim residents of the country. On the night of April 5, police clashed with Palestinians at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
During the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, dozens of masked youths barricaded themselves in Al-Aqsa Mosque and called for rebellion. Police teams were dispatched to the scene. When they entered the mosque, stones and fireworks were thrown at them, and two law enforcement officers were injured.
Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that Israeli police raided the mosque using sound bombs, tear gas, rubber bullets and batons.
After this conflict, riots broke out in other parts of East Jerusalem and in the West Bank. According to Arab news agencies, the police detained about 400 people and injured more than 100.
Hezbollah has pledged to respond to the raid on the mosque following clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police. Soon after, several rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory. Israel responded with attacks.
Many leaders and politicians of Muslim countries condemned Israel for its security forces disturbing the remaining believers in the blessed month. Turkish authorities described the actions of the police as “terrible” and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described them as an act of terrorism. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) urged Israel and Lebanon to “keep their nerves and avoid escalating the conflict”.
