Bumar-Łabędy and the Ukrainian company Ukrobronprom have established a technology center for the repair of Ukrainian T-64 tanks, the Polish Armaments Group, owner of the Gliwice company, announced on Friday.
Over time, the Gliwice factories will maintain and modernize the PT-91 and T-72 tanks transferred from Poland to Ukraine.
In Zakłady Mechaniczne Bumar-Łabędy SA, work related to the implementation of the concluded contract for the repair of T-64 tanks has started. The agreement was signed between the company Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa and the Ukrainian concern Ukrobronprom
– reported the PGZ.
Ukrainian T-64s will be maintained, repaired and returned to full working order in Gliwice. The agreement also provides for cooperation in assembly, production and “development of the supply chain of T-64 vehicles along with other elements of the technological process”.
In the long term, cooperation is also planned in the maintenance of T-72 and PT-91 tanks, which have been transferred from Poland to the Ukrainian side. PGZ informed that “joint work is also being considered on the service of tanks of the Leopard 2 family transferred to Ukraine by an international coalition.”
More than 70 years of experience
As noted by the Group, the choice of Bumar-Łabędy as a partner of this contract is the result of the Gliwice-based company’s extensive experience in maintaining and modernizing T-family tanks, including the T-72 and PT- 91. The group recalled that thanks to the modernization program of the Leopard 2A4 tanks to the 2PL standard for the needs of the Polish army, the company has obtained “knowledge, technical facilities and experience” necessary to operate the Leopards.
Gliwice Zakłady Mechaniczne is ready to create a hub for repairs of armored equipment used by the Ukrainian army
– assured Edyta Szymańska, president of ZM Bumar-Łabędy, quoted in the PGZ information.
The factory’s more than 70 years of experience in both manufacturing and conducting inspections, repairs, retrofitting and modernization of armored equipment will be an important help in maintaining the defense capabilities of the Ukrainian army
she added. She stated that the tanks delivered to Bumar-Łabędy will be returned to the required combat readiness.
Gratitude from Ukraine
We are grateful to our Polish partners for their help in increasing the number of armored equipment for the armed forces of Ukraine. Any such international agreement integrates us into the production chains of NATO member states
Yuri Husiev, director general of Ukroboronprom, noted.
The agreement on cooperation in the service of T-64 tanks is another Polish-Ukrainian agreement related to armored weapons. During the visit of President Volodymyr Zelensky to Poland, the following agreements were signed: an agreement on cooperation in the production of 125 mm tank ammunition and a letter of intent on the sale of Rosomak wheeled armored personnel carriers to the Ukrainian side.
