Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov answered the questions of journalists regarding the Western criticism of the new concept of Russia’s foreign policy, published on March 31.

The journalist particularly recalled that the document contained a thesis on the use of the Armed Forces to repel or prevent an armed attack against Russia or its allies, which was criticized in the West. The journalist asked whether the consolidation of this thesis was connected with threats to Belarus or if it was said about Russia’s allies in general.

Peskov noted that the practice of preventive use is widely used and is used by many countries in the world, especially the collective Western countries.

“And the development of events, the aggressive development of events around us makes it necessary for us to reserve such a right,” the Kremlin spokesman said.

He added that the concept has been updated in the light of new realities.

Former Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov declarationThat the thesis on the use of the Russian Armed Forces to protect the allies is included in the updated concept of Russian foreign policy. He noted that the Armed Forces could be used both to repel an attack that is already underway and to prevent such an attack on Russia or its allies.
