Last week my client sent me a letter of resignation as town clerk. As soon as it reaches me, I will immediately hand it over to the capital’s city hall – said Włodzimierz Karpiński’s lawyer, lawyer Michał Królikowski.
The information was confirmed by the spokesperson for the capital’s town hall, Monika Beuth.
We have received information from the lawyer that Mr. Włodzimierz Karpiński has resigned from his position
– she told PAP, adding that once the letter reaches the president of Warsaw, the resignation will be accepted, as announced.
Włodzimierz Karpiński, the former finance minister, was detained in the investigation, in which former deputy finance minister Rafał Baniak (both agree to give his name – PAP), as well as Artur P., Wojciech S. and Waldemar K. Są was arrested in early February and is suspected of having concluded contracts worth PLN 600 million with the municipal cleaning company in Warsaw. Karpiński was accused of accepting a financial advantage of almost PLN 5 million. At the beginning of February, Former Deputy Finance Minister Rafał Baniak has already heard a similar accusation in the same investigation. Both were temporarily arrested.
On March 15, the court in Katowice did not accept the complaint against the detention of Włodzimierz Karpiński.
