German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said the Chinese leadership should be in direct contact with the authorities in Kiev. It has been reported TASS.
Answering a question from a journalist about the visit of Chinese leader Xi Jinping to Moscow, the official noted that the issue of peace talks with Ukraine could be discussed there.
“We believe this issue will also be addressed, as it would be correct if the Chinese government directly contacts the Ukrainian authorities and negotiates with the President of Ukraine (Vladimir) Zelensky,” Scholz said.
Earlier, John Kirby, the strategic communications coordinator of the US National Security Council, said that he hopes the US leadership will contact Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow. He added that he did not believe that the immediate ceasefire proposed by China in Ukraine would be a step “in the direction of a just and lasting peace”.
