Compensation for the living victims of World War II is only a small part of Germany’s commitment to the Poles; However, this will not replace Poland for the murder of civilians, slave labour, child abduction and missed opportunities – stressed the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Arkadiusz Mularczyk, commenting on the statement of the head of the PO.
Tusk and reparations. Strong resident demand
During the Friday meeting with the residents of Bytom, Tusk was asked, among other things: for reparations from Germany. They were asked by one of the men whose ancestors, he said, had been sent to hard labour; he accused PO politicians of ridiculing attempts at reparations.
Tusk replied that he did not speak ironically about reparations and did not laugh at them, but he did laugh at the current administration’s actions on this issue, and his party supported the first resolution on reparations many years ago.
After all, I know that if PiS sends Mularczyk to settle reparations, PiS knows full well that nothing will come of it
– said the leader of the PO.
The leader of the PO also argued that politics is about the practical settlement of Polish interests and if there is money, he tries to “seize” it for Poland. As he emphasized, there are still several hundred thousand Poles who were born during World War II and directly felt the consequences of the German attack on Poland.
I believe there is still something to play and to win (…) If I am in any way responsible for the Polish government, we will get, in addition to European money, what is due to the Germans in terms of victims who are still alive, and if those born before or during the war are, in a sense, victims of the German attack. That’s all you need to be able to, and not fly around the world like clowns (…)
Tusk said.
What’s more, the PO leader, speaking of the ruling camp, called his politicians “PiS suckers with Mularczyk” who are “running with reparations papers”.

There is a reply from the deputy head of the State Department
Tusk’s statements were later commented on social media by the deputy chief of the State Department.
Compensation for the living victims of World War II is only a small part of Germany’s commitment to the Poles. However, this will not replace Poland’s compensation for the murder of 5.2 million civilians, the slave labor of more than 2 million, the kidnapping of 200,000. Polish children and missed opportunities for many generations
– Mularczyk emphasized in a Twitter post.
