Finnish President Sauli Niinistö will pay a working visit to our country on 16-17 March 2023 at the invitation of President Tayyip Erdoğan.

Ankara announced that the issue of approval of Finland’s application to join NATO will be discussed during the visit.

Former Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson declarationthis raised the possibility of a separate entry of Finland and Sweden into the North Atlantic Alliance. According to him, Sweden is ready for Finland to join NATO without him.

Finnish President Sauli Niinistö declarationthat the final confirmation of the country’s accession to NATO will take place before the US presidential election in 2024.

Finland and Sweden applied for NATO membership in May 2022. This decision has not yet been supported by Hungary and Turkey.
