The Senate, formerly the upper house of the Parliament of Uzbekistan – approved Decision of the Legislative Assembly, the lower house of parliament, to hold a referendum on 30 April on the draft new constitution.
It was reported that 134 out of 137 lawmakers approved the country’s new Constitution, two abstained and one did not vote.
According to the channel, the constitution will be updated by 65%, 27 new articles will be added to it, and their number will increase from 128 to 155, and it will be 434 instead of the current 275 law norm.
On March 10, deputies of the Legislative Assembly decided to hold a referendum on April 30. On March 14, the Constitutional Court of Uzbekistan found it reasonable to hold a referendum that day.
According to the press secretary of the President of Uzbekistan, Sherzod Asadov, the draft law on amending the constitution of Uzbekistan was prepared after examining more than 200,000 proposals.
