EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said that the adoption of the Georgian version of the foreign agents law is a bad development for the country. He pointed out that the project is contrary to Tbilisi’s desire to join the European Union.
“On Tuesday, the Georgian Parliament adopted a new law on transparency of foreign influence at the first reading. “This is a very bad development for Georgia and its people,” he said.
Noting that the law is incompatible with the EU’s values and standards, the union representative added that this also contradicts Georgia’s stated goal of joining the European Union.
Borrell urged to “respect the right” [грузинских] urged citizens to protest peacefully.
