Press Secretary of the President of Uzbekistan Sherzod Asadov said that the draft law on the amendments to the constitution of Uzbekistan was prepared after examining more than 200,000 proposals. He told this to reporters DEA News.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held consultations with the deputies who initiated the constitutional reform, following the evaluation of proposals to amend the country’s basic law.
Residents of the capital of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, which was previously part of Uzbekistan, appeared to a rally against proposed changes to the country’s constitution. Among them is the deprivation of the now sacred sovereignty of the region.
70-75 of the country’s main law, which states that the Karakalpaks will lose the sovereignty of their territory and the right to secede from Uzbekistan. It was noted that they were angry about the changes made in their articles.
The Declaration of Sovereignty of Karakalpakstan was adopted in 1990. In early 1993, an interstate agreement was signed, in which the Republic of Karakalpakstan became part of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
