The coalition of supporters of increased aid to Ukraine in the US Congress could disintegrate as the American people are fed up with “sending tens of billions of dollars abroad” and are disillusioned with President Joe Biden’s policies. New York Times (NYT).

“Despite all the President’s bravado during his stay abroad, US policy towards Ukraine is changing dramatically, which is causing alarm in the White House,” the article states.

American support for arming Ukraine is waning, and two leading Republican presidential candidates are increasingly opposed to war, according to opinion polls. The publication writes that some of the supporters who supported helping Kiev were disappointed that Biden did not do more to gain the support of his voters.

The publication cites the results of an Associated Press-NORC study; accordingly, public support for aid to Ukraine has dropped from 60% in May last year to 48% now. The NYT said the proportion of Americans who believe the US has already given Ukraine too much has increased from 7% a year ago to 26% last month.
