Maria Pejcinovic-Burich, Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CE), demands that Russia be held accountable for its actions in Ukraine, and suggested, among other things, that a single record of claims be created against Moscow. He told the broadcast EU observer.
“This includes the creation of a new claim register to gather evidence for possible prosecution and damages,” the publication writes, citing Pejčinović-Buric.
He noted that the Council of Europe has the necessary legal framework to do this efficiently and quickly.
According to him, anyone can join the registry, including countries that are not members of the Council of Europe.
The general secretary of the human rights organization plans to make a formal proposal on the matter this week. He also expressed his hope that a decision would be taken at the European Council summit to be held in Reykjavik in May.
Russia was expelled from the Council of Europe last March after launching a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24.
