Totalitarianism gives birth before our eyes with the ambition to fundamentally reconstruct our reality. Border situations such as war or crisis expose ideological lies. Politics and nationalism return, the illusion of European unity collapses and in the heat of war male virtues push gender theories to the trash. Bronisław Wildstein has no illusions that the national community and the state are the only refuge for our freedom.
The National Publishing Institute recently organized a veritable festival of publications by Bronisław Wildstein, a writer and well-known publicist. After the publication of his plays, a collection of early novels and philosophical books, it was time for a collection of essays and philosophical columns. Texts often published in our weekly magazine, with a strong journalistic edge. At the promotion meeting led by Prof. Andrzej Nowak, the room was bursting at the seams.

Today, Wildstein is a conservative thinker, consistent for years, as he exposes leftist utopias, experimentation, and nihilism. But for some time now I have been under no illusions about the consequences of liberalism, the successive incarnations that are destroying the fabric of Western societies, along with the egalitarianism that goes along with it, the entitlements of all minorities and the rights of individuals.
These different incarnations of ideology hitting western civilization, which is also trying to hit its foundation and uproot us from it, is called emancipation. It is in practice nihilism, behind which there is nothing. This is what I faced from the beginning of my public activity
– said Bronisław Wildstein at a meeting in the publishing house
The author points to this the ruling class responsible for the top-down reconstruction of the world and man is the global oligarchy. In the post-political world, it is even more dangerous, because it is hidden, but it has the ruthless power of persuasion (media companies), administrative pressure (law and courts) and economic pressure (big transnational corporations)..
Today, liberal democracy is created by the norms of ideology, interpreted and controlled by its priests in the name of the ruling oligarchy, leading us to a totalitarian reality. They must acquire all possible, ie total competencies, otherwise their project cannot be carried out
– writes Bronislaw Wildstein.
In his new book entitled “In the Face of War, Plague and Nothing” establishes that a new totalitarianism is being born before our very eyes with the ambition to fundamentally rebuild our reality through the atomization of human society. The goal is to break down all existing social structures and put in their place new ones, serving a totalitarian utopia.
The nation is therefore the most stable community for us. Freed from them we become lonely and defenseless
says the columnist in the opening essay of the collection.
He admits that since 1992 and the signing of the Maastricht Treaty, the process of building a federal Europe has begun, eliminating national differences and state sovereignty. Both the Brussels bureaucracy and the globalists are creating a system of increasingly tight control over all aspects of social life. This kind of totalitarianism seeks to liberate people from traditional forms of culture and family, religious and national communities, while at the same time leading individuals to loneliness and helplessness in the face of the dominant centers of power and capital. Their power is absolute.
Wildstein points out that communism, the most brutal version of a totalitarian utopia, had the ability to homogenize very different societies, live in different cultures, and inherit different historical experiences. This happened in Russia and China; in Cuba and Indochina; in Mongolia, Korea, Ethiopia and all Eastern Bloc countries from Bulgaria to Germany. He points out that communism, based on the philosophy of Marx, promised to build the world after rejecting and transforming the world.
That is why, in his own words, he favors the confirmation of reality, the acceptance of man and the world with its imperfections, but also beauty, inequalities and unpredictability. For example, he protests against the mathematical calculations of the authors of the “Brave New World”, the dictatorship of the scientific view of the world, which seems to have been ridiculed by communist politicians. Following Eric Voegelin’s thought, Wildstein admits that the conglomeration of ideologies that organizes our lives is a new version of gnosis that recognizes the world’s radical evil and strives to correct it with the help of enlightened elites.
The body of today’s dominant ideology is scattered. Formally speaking, antidoctrinal thinking, which should be its method, ensures that there is not one gospel, but a whole library of very similar texts, there is not one prophet, but a legion of those saying the same thing
the author notes interestingly.
But all is not lost. In “In the face of war, pest and nothingness”, the author admits that fortunately the brutal lesson of reality, namely the war in Ukraine, is shaking the Western world out of its infantile dreams. The war revises many more phenomena, for example exposing the fiction of European unity, because Berlin’s global ambitions enabled Russia to provoke it. At the same time, the coronavirus pandemic has proven that the nation-state is today the optimal way to organize collective life. It turned out that in a dangerous situation, the EU bureaucracy was unable to cope with the challenges and that the self-interest of the member states blatantly outweighed the welfare of the continent.
The war waged by Russia jeopardized many of the superstitions we had been led into, such as that war will not break out, that borders are unnecessary, that home and family do not exist, and that the courage required to defend them is a patriarchal virtue which should be recognized once and deleted for all along with gender and its permanent orientation
– said Prof. Andreas Nowak.
