Solidarna Polska is launching a nationwide campaign to inform about the contradiction of the EU ban on registration of internal combustion engine cars with Polish interests; Let’s hope that the European Parliament corrects its mistake in the new parliamentary term – said the SP spokesperson, deputy head of the Ministry of Climate and Environment, Jacek Dekora.
On 27 October 2022, the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament reached an agreement on stricter CO2 emission standards for new cars and vans. From 2035, it will not be possible to register new cars and vans with a combustion engine in any EU Member State.
Action of Solidarity Poland
Dekora informed during a press conference that Solidarna Polska is launching a nationwide campaign to inquire why – as he said – “this kind of top-down ban is against the Polish interest, against the Poles and why costs will rise.” He added that the purpose of the action is to raise awareness among citizens and decision-makers that the European Parliament has “made a mistake”.
Let us hope that this mistake will be rectified in the new EP term
– added.
Ornament added that everyone “should be able to decide whether to drive a combustion car or choose an electric car”.
We do not say “no” to electric cars, but we say “no” to a situation where there is a ban from above
he said.
Increase in service costs
The SP spokesman estimated that the ban on registration of combustion cars will increase the costs of services and products and increase the exclusion from transport.
The Deputy Minister of Justice, Member of Parliament Michał Woś, who was present at the briefing, stressed that his party is in favor of freedom of choice and not of introducing bans from above. He also believed that changes in the energy mix should be approved unanimously in the EU, not by a qualified majority. He added that the SP will do everything it can to bring about the abolition of this law.
Climate and Environment Minister Anna Moscow said in January that the ban on registration of new combustion cars from 2035 was unrealistic. She added that Poland is a minority in the European Union on this issue.
