Former Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei, considered the “chief architect” of peace agreements with Israel, has died at the age of 86. The newspaper writes about it New York Times.
According to media reports, the Palestinian politician died in the hospital from the infection. Recently Kurei has been suffering from heart problems.
In the 1990s, Qurei wrote interim peace agreements between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). At the end of 1992, the politician met with the Israeli scientist Yair Hirschfeld at his request. At the time, Israeli officials were forbidden to contact the PLO, but the meeting between Qurei and Hirschfeld led to secret negotiations, in which the politician acted as a representative from Palestine.
