I do not exclude that we will not have border traffic with Belarus. We are determined to take further action. First of all, we want the release of the activist of the Polish minority, journalist Andrzej Poczobut, sentenced to eight years in prison, stressed the deputy head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration Maciej Wąsik.
The behavior towards Poczobut is unimaginable
Deputy Minister Wąsik commented on the “exchange of diplomatic blows” between Poland and Belarus on program 3 of Polish Radio. He was asked, among other things, whether it is possible to close all Polish-Belarusian border crossings.
I do not know if it is possible to close all border crossings with Belarus. I know one thing. We cannot look at what Lukashenko is doing with the Polish minority without taking action. What has been done to Mr. Poczobut is simply unimaginable
Wasik stressed.
Without Poland’s reaction, he added, neither the sentencing by the “Belarusian tribunals” of representatives of the Polish minority nor the destruction of the graveyards of Home Army soldiers can go ahead.
Poland is prepared for different situations. Frankly, I do not rule out the possibility that we will not have border traffic with Belarus
he stressed.
Help for Polish companies
When asked whether in such a situation there would be compensation for Polish companies that would suffer losses, the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration recalled that when entrepreneurs suffered damage due to political actions that the government considered necessary , such programs were established.
We are ready and determined to take further action. However, we will see how the Belarusian side will behave. We are waiting for some signals. First of all, we want Poczobut to be free. This is clear
Mustache said. As he emphasized, the government wants the rights of the Polish minority to be respected and the destruction of the cemeteries of soldiers of the Home Army to stop.
Bobrowniki
On February 10, traffic at the Polish-Belarusian border crossing in Bobrowniki (Podlaskie Voivodeship) was suspended until further notice. This is the result of the decision of the head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, Mariusz Kamiński, taken – as the minister stated – “because of the weighty importance of state security”. Earlier, a Belarusian court in Grodno sentenced Andrzej Poczobut, a Polish minority activist and journalist, to eight years in prison.
Kukuryki-Kozlowicze
On February 18, the Belarusian regime introduced restrictions preventing Polish carriers from using border crossings on the part of the border between Belarus and Lithuania and Latvia. Their vehicles are released only at the Kukuryki-Kozłowicze border crossing with the terminal in Koroszczyn.
Therefore, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration decided to restrict the passage through the Kukuryki-Kozłowicze border crossing. As of Tuesday, freight traffic at this border crossing will only be accessible to vehicles registered in the member states of the European Union and the EFTA (Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein). Carriers from outside these countries – including Belarusian carriers – can only travel from Poland to Belarus and from Belarus to Poland via Lithuania and Latvia.
In addition, a liaison officer of the Polish border guard and two employees of the Polish consulate in Grodno had to leave Belarus. MFA spokesman Łukasz Jasina informed PAP on Thursday that the Belarusian defense attaché would leave Poland.
In addition to the crossing in Kukuryki on the border between Poland and Belarus, there is another road crossing in Terespol, where passenger traffic takes place. No new restrictions have been introduced there. There are also railway crossings.
