The Permanent Representation of Russia in Vienna described the EU’s 10th package of sanctions against Russia as illegitimate and stated that the restrictions will not remain unanswered by Moscow. RT.
The permanent mission stressed that restrictions on the Russian Federation were passed without the approval of the United Nations Security Council, therefore they are illegal. The statement also states that for the first time, the European Union has expanded sanctions on the transit of a number of goods through Russian territory in order to “pressure the trade relations of third countries”.
Representatives of the Russian Federation emphasized that such actions do not harm the Russian state as a whole as much as international trade.
In addition, EU restrictions have been named as violating the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
“Clearly, Brussels violates the rights not only of representatives of the Russian media, but also of its own citizens (sanctions were also imposed on the media of the Russian Federation. — Approx. ed.). Russia’s Permanent Mission to Vienna said in a statement that the EU appears to have taken the decision to completely isolate Europeans from an alternative perspective.
The permanent mission also noted that the purpose of the European sanctions is to seriously hit the citizens of the Russian Federation, while Moscow does not take on the task of worsening the socio-economic situation of Europeans.
On February 25, the European Union approved the tenth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation in connection with the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine. In addition to imposing restrictions on 121 real and legal persons, significant new restrictions were imposed on imports and exports.
