German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, in an interview with German media on Sunday, signaled the possibility of joint maneuvers by US, German and Polish forces as part of the North Atlantic Alliance, which would take place in Poland.
To a question from a journalist from the German broadcaster ARD about joint maneuvers by American, German and Polish soldiers that would soon take place in Poland, the German minister replied:
I don’t want to confirm it now, but there are considerations.
Signal for Putin
When asked what kind of signal such maneuvers would send to the Kremlin, Pistorius said it would send a clear signal to Putin that the Alliance is not as weak as the Russian president thought.
NATO is much stronger and more united than before
– said the head of the Ministry of Defense, adding:
it is important for countries such as Poland, the Baltic States and Slovakia to see that Germany as the Alliance’s largest partner in Europe and the US as a transatlantic partner fulfill their commitments to defend the Alliance precisely on the so-called eastern flank.
