“It is difficult to get the impression that there is good will from the EC to cooperate with Poland,” Beata Szydło, former Prime Minister, PiS MEP from 2019, said in an interview with Radio Plus.
Will Prime Minister Szydlo take part in the Sejm elections?
The former prime minister answered the question m.in. for possible participation in parliamentary elections.
All PiS members and all politicians will be very involved in the election campaign and will do everything they can to win. For me it is essential that my group wins these elections
she stressed.
Right now I’m holding the mandate of a Member of the European Parliament I believe there are very, very many important things here in the EP right now that are first and foremost important for Poland so right now I’m focusing on this work. But we will all definitely be involved in the election campaign, we will support our party
said Szydlo.
The time to discuss the form of the lists is yet to come. These decisions will primarily be made by the party leadership. At the moment I am focusing on the work here, because a lot of important things for Poland are happening here, and we know the attitude of the European Commission and the European Parliament, so we really have a lot of challenges here
she added.
These decisions are still ahead of us, but I will wholeheartedly support PiS in the parliamentary elections
noted the MEP.
“The world has finally understood that only defeating Putin guarantees peace.
Commenting on support for Ukraine, Beata Szydło stated:
Until recently, the EU’s approach to this war was different. Now we can be more optimistic.
The former prime minister pointed out that a debate was held yesterday in the European Parliament on how to support Ukraine, and the words of the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, and the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen , were “optimistic”.
Representatives of all political groups also largely emphasized the need for military support. For now, we are at the level of commitments and declarations, but that was not even the case a few months ago
– assessed Radio Zet’s interlocutor.
The world has finally understood that only defeating Putin in this war can guarantee peace for all of Europe. The US plays a major role in this as they clearly sided with Ukraine
she stressed.
Szydło also answered a question about US President Joe Biden’s visit to Poland.
President Biden shows that Poland is now the most important player when it comes to supporting Ukraine. Probably Joe Biden will talk about the need to support Ukraine, military involvement. I think this visit can be a breakthrough and will show that there is great determination to support Ukraine
said the MEP.
“Work, humility, moderation”
The politician was also asked if PiS is still guided by the motto “work, humility, moderation”.
For me this motto work, humility, moderation is still important and continuously defines my commitment to politics and I believe this should be the motto for all politicians, not just from PiS, but for every governing team
said Szydlo.
I’ll put it this way: of course we’ve made a lot of mistakes and will probably make more mistakes, because this is life and this is the dynamics of politics. It’s just that we can’t just apologize, can’t just change the decision, withdraw from bad decisions and look for new solutions
she added.
This is primarily a response to PiS having to talk to Poles all the time. I go to meetings, I talk to people and I see that there is still a need for these conversations. There are no good politicians if they forget where they get their power from and who gave them the mandate. Sure, you should always verify the actions that are wrong, and we’ll move on
she pointed it out.
The last issue mentioned by the editor, which is the National Center for Research and Development, is extremely shocking, but the conclusions have been drawn and those responsible have suffered the consequences, and that’s good, and that’s how it should be. In politics, as in life, mistakes are inevitable, but as I said, a decisive, quick response is needed and when these mistakes are made, you just have to fix them
she stressed.
We will not avoid these mistakes, just as previous governments have not avoided them. We disagree that we can change the decision, we apologize
– added the Radio Plus interlocutor.
On the other hand, it must be frankly stated that many activities that are classified as alleged scandals have nothing to do with scandalous activities. Only and exclusively captured by the opposition and later published in the media gives the impression that something is not right. In such situations it is always important to listen to the other side, show both sides of the coin and not just focus on a one sided message
– noted Beata Szydło.
“The European Commission allowed the opposition to get involved in a political game
The former prime minister also answered questions about the dispute between Poland and the European Commission.
Everything indicates that the European Commission is currently using all possible means to target Poland. It is mainly motivated by the Polish opposition to participate in an attempt to change Poland’s electoral decisions and bring about a change of government in Poland
she said.
The Polish government really showed a lot of understanding, decided to make serious compromises in consultation with the European Commission, and as you can see, any decision of the Polish government that meets the expectations of the European Commission turns out to be too weak in the end and there are made more demands
said Szydlo.
I am not in favor of making such statements or statements public
– she said when asked about the words of the Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro.
It’s hard for me to say if it’s criticism or just a different take on how these things are handled. The Prime Minister is responsible for this process, for the functioning of the government, and it is also difficult to impose a strategy on him. As prime minister I have had to make many decisions, these were my decisions and my responsibility
– said the interlocutor of Radio Plus.
Everyone who negotiates has a negotiation strategy. Only both parties must be ready to reach a compromise. On the part of the Polish government, this willingness is always there. On the other hand, the European Commission is lacking – not because Poland is not fulfilling its obligations or pursuing policies that are inconsistent with EU policies, but because there is no political will on the part of the EU
she added.
These are actions motivated by political aversion to Poland. The European Commission allowed the opposition to get involved in a political game. All the Commission’s expectations are met, with new ones being added all the time. They are fulfilled, but not yet enough. You can get that impression by observing what is happening
said Szydlo.
This is also a consequence of the decisions taken in 2020, when the “money for the rule of law” mechanism was adopted. This is a thing of the past, but the Polish government reached an agreement with the Commission, there was the Commission’s approval for certain actions and it appears that it is still not enough. It is difficult to get the impression that the EC has a good will to cooperate with Poland
– concluded the former prime minister.
