European countries should increase their ammunition production and increase their own production capacity to help Ukraine. This was expressed by the Chancellor of the Estonian Ministry of Defense, Kusti Salm, the portal reported. MISTAKE.
According to him, ammunition depots of some countries supporting Ukraine are already running out, because Ukraine spends a lot of ammunition. “Ukrainians spend in a week what their Western allies – the US and European countries – can produce in a month,” Salm said.
He noted that the armed forces of Ukraine and Russia have different amounts of ammunition. For example, Ukraine fires 2,000 to 7,000 shells per day, while the Russian army can fire 20,000 to 50,000 rounds per day.
“If the Western allies today can produce 200,000 to 300,000 rounds per year, then we should start producing 700,000 to one million rounds per year. Salm could perhaps triple production this year,” he said.
According to him, this would allow enough ammunition to be sent to Ukraine.
Salm also stressed that Estonia bought twice as much ammunition last year than it did during its full independence recovery period. According to the Chancellor, he cannot say how many days of the battle the Estonian defense forces will have ammunition, but according to the plan there is enough ammunition to start fighting together with the allies. “We have enough ammo for that and we plan to get more,” he said.
February 10, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Igor Zhovkva declaration He said in an interview with Bloomberg that Ukraine has almost no ammunition left. He noted that it remained “almost zero”.
Political columnist Paul McLeary declarationThat the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) should save on ammunition due to the depletion of stocks of Western partners.
