US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Nicaragua has released more than 200 political prisoners and sent them to the United States. This has been reported US Department of State website.

According to Blinken, this action is a constructive step towards solving human rights problems and improving relations between the two countries.

“Today, the United States hails the 222 people imprisoned and subjected to long and unjustified detentions by the government of Nicaragua for exercising their fundamental freedoms,” the Secretary of State said.

Blinken stated that the prisoners’ arrival in the United States was “a product of concerted American diplomacy.”
