Jakub Maciejewski spoke to a soldier from one of Ukraine’s elite brigades defending Bakhmut, surrounded by Russians. The man has already escaped from the infernal front, but his story shows how tough the struggle of the Ukrainians is.

Explosions all the time, it’s hot all the time. The offensive is coming, now 20,000. The Russians attack. Today they even destroyed our tank, 93rd Brigade, and burned my gun (the burning explosion of the broken tank knocked the soldier to the ground and damaged his machine gun – ed.). The tank was on fire and the fire reached all the way to me. Everyone is terribly tired. It can be said that practically no one changes our brigade
– reported a soldier who survived the hell of Bakhmut.
Jakub Maciejewski, in conversation with a soldier of the 92nd Brigade, asks if and when Bachmut should be allowed to fall into the hands of the Russians.
We will defend it to the last moment, because if they come any further from the Swatowy direction (from the north – ed.), they will destroy us. From there it is high, (the terrain made the Russian positions higher than the Ukrainian positions – ed.) They will be able to shoot us from above
said the soldier.
He’s just a threat of encirclement, right?
– asked Jakub Maciejewski.
We are being attacked by artillery. They shoot, shoot, shoot and then the infantry follows. The man in the trench can’t get out, if he leans out he will die, and if he doesn’t lean out – and there are Russians ten feet away – so either you die or they capture you
– reported the Ukrainian soldier.
Ghostly losses
Jakub Maciejewski’s interlocutor also spoke of the unimaginable losses recorded by the Russians. It is clear that the inept Russian command does not care about the loss of its soldiers. It’s just cannon fodder for them.
Russian losses are much greater. Of the 120,000 of the people who were in this section, also around Soledar, remained … of 80,000.
– enumerated the Ukrainian soldier.
