In a resolution, the Supreme Council of the Polish Socialist Party has decided to revoke the permission for the existing parliamentary group of the PPS to use the name, signs, symbols and abbreviations of the Polish Socialist Party. Why was this decision made? The portal wPolityce.pl got to know the backstage of this case.
Konieczny: Important decisions of the circle were not agreed with the party authorities
We asked Senator Wojciech Konieczny, the only MP from the former PPS branch who remained with the PPS party, about the reasons for the above-mentioned resolution of the Supreme Council of the PPS. He admits that an important point here was the critical attitude of the other members of the PPS circle towards the alliance with the New Left.
The other members of the circle were indeed very skeptical about cooperation with other left parties, they felt more attracted to other groups. The statements of, for example, Member of Parliament Rozenek, who had already announced that he would not exclude starting from the KO list, were a bit premature – to put it mildly. Such statements cannot be made without the decision of the Supreme Council of the Polish Socialist Party. This was undoubtedly one of the reasons, but there were many factors behind this decision, which were related to the lack of cooperation between the parliamentary circle and the party and such a great sense of autonomy of the circle from the party. Very important decisions of the circle were not only not consulted with the party authorities, but even the parties were not informed about them. Such a situation formed the basis for considering whether this was the right thing to do. The Supreme Court of the Public Prosecution Service came to the conclusion that no. My attempts to change this situation within the circle have failed, which is why we made this decision and not another
– say Wojciech Konieczny.
Senator Konieczny points out that people from the former circle of the PPS (except him) are involved in building the Association of Democratic Left.
Those people are very involved in building the Association of the Democratic Left, an organization that, in our opinion, is not the future of the Public Prosecution Service. Placing this organization in the foreground by people who are obliged to act for the Public Prosecution Service also went down the wrong way. Unfortunately, there were also statements that the party’s resolutions do not apply to all members of the circle, etc. This sealed this cooperation in such a way that we had to end it
– underlined.
When asked if he is not afraid that the aforementioned split will give the impression that the left is not united at all, he replies:
It’s just the opposite. Yesterday, the Public Prosecution Service voted for four left-wing parties to join the agreement: the Trade Union, Nieuw Links, Samen Links and PPS. We are only for the consolidation of links. That is also where the axis of the conflict in the Public Prosecution Service turned
he makes clear. Wojciech Konieczny adds that the members of the former branch of the Public Prosecution Service eventually voted for a resolution that denies them the right to use the name and symbols of the Public Prosecution Service.
KWiatkowski: “I am surprised by this resolution”
The second interlocutor of the wPolityce.pl portal, Robert Kwiatkowski, sees the whole thing in a completely different way. He is and was not a member of the PPS group, but he did belong to the parliamentary circle of this formation.
I am surprised by this resolution. I make a reservation that I was not and will not be a member of the OM, but this is the first time I know of a political party giving up its representation in parliament. The celebration has great, wonderful traditions, but today, to be honest, it does not play a major role. At their own request, they gave up the help of people like me
Kwiatkowski points out.
I would not view this decision as a punishment or reward, but as a sort of agreement with the leadership of the New Left. It seems to me that the clues point in that direction, and that’s how it was unofficially presented
he adds.
Robert Kwiatkowski points out that people from the former circle of the Public Prosecution Service (except Wojciech Konieczny) believe that the widest possible electoral cooperation of the opposition is necessary, preferably in the form of a single list.
We believe that we should mainly focus on the broadest possible formula of cooperation between the opposition, the so-called one list. If it’s not possible to have a single list, at least make one that’s as broad as possible. On the other hand, unlike formal spells, the left direction tends to be more confrontational. It is enough to listen to what the SamenPartie and Adrian Zandberg say to realize that the line of conflict between the left and the PO will be slightly different. I think the left is making a cardinal mistake in this way
he says.
Asked about the political future, Konieczny insists that there is still a circle to which he belongs – currently under the name of the Democratic Left Circle. In addition to him, it includes: Member of Parliament Joanna Senyszyn, Member of Parliament Andrzej Rozenek and Deputy Speaker of the Senate Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka.
He is close to the Democratic left and nothing has changed here except one senator has left. We are all members of the Association of the Democratic Left. It seems to me that it is a neat and spacious formula
– say.
When asked with whom the politicians from the above-mentioned circle go to the elections, he replies:
Frankly, we are too small a circle to set the tone and dictate the course of events. Let’s wait until the big ones are finally determined, because it is not yet known on how many and on which lists the opposition will go to the elections.
