Polish Senator 2050 Jacek Bury filed a motion to reject this amendment in its entirety during Tuesday’s Senate debate on the amendment to the Supreme Court law. “The bill in the parliamentary version is another step towards spoiling Poland,” said Bury.
The Senate will discuss the amendment to the law on the Supreme Court on Tuesday. This is the only item on Tuesday’s Senate meeting. On Monday, Senate committees recommended 14 amendments to this amendment. The recommended amendments significantly transform the amendment – eg assume the abolition of the Supreme Court’s Professional Liability Chamber and transfer to the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division to deal with disciplinary cases, eg judges, prosecutors, lawyers, notaries and legal advisers.
Bury compares Poland to North Korea?!
During the debate, Senator Bury pointed out that “PiS people, even before the Senate proposed the amendments, announced that they would reject them in the Sejm, no matter what they were.”
What pride and ignorance
he assessed.
If we apply their understanding of the concept of sovereignty, it must be said that North Korea is the most sovereign country in the world because it is a country that is not bound to anyone by agreements.
– said Bury and asked PiS:
Do you want to turn Poland into North Korea?
Poland’s 2050 senator assured that his party “does not want opposition disputes”.
But we have our opinion and we will defend fundamental issues, and that is standing up for injustice
he stressed.
Given the administration’s behavior and announcements, the Senate should veto this bill, let’s not be naive. PiS together with Zbigniew Ziobro, as they announced, will reject all our amendments in the Sejm, they will throw them in the trash, because these amendments do not serve their interests. They want to build a second North Korea in Poland
Bury said.
They are turning to PiS, he added:
Poles are not Koreans. We’d rather take you in wheelbarrows than give up our freedom.
Senate amendments to Supreme Court law
On Monday, at the meeting of Senate committees, 23 senators — committee members voted in favor of the amendment along with all 14 amendments proposed by the Senate majority, one opposed and three abstained.
There is no question that if these amendments pass the Senate, the amendment will implement all “milestones” and remove all unconstitutional provisions.
– Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, Chairman of the Legislative Committee (Independent Senators Circle), told journalists at the time.
European Affairs Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk said during the Senate debate that “currently attempts to introduce amendments or seek opinions on issues related to this law, attempts to submit applications to the Venice Commission, to other outside agencies, are basically attempts to find a hole in everything”.
And in this case – attempts to find a gap in the whole process of obtaining funds that are fundamental to our country. Not only do I find such an action harmful, but I say it with full conviction: I find it highly irresponsible. I believe that the entire political class should be held accountable in this matter, regardless of whether the situation in the judiciary suits them or whether they are critical of this situation
– assessed the minister.
The Sejm passed an amendment to the law on the Supreme Court on January 13 this year. According to the authors, PiS deputies, this law should fulfill an important “milestone” for the European Commission to release money for the national reconstruction plan. In the parliamentary vote, the opposition clubs KO, Lewicy and PSL generally abstained. On the other hand, Poland2050 deputies opposed the adoption of the amendment.
