Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström said that his country has fulfilled all the conditions of the agreement with Turkey to join the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO). His words at the press conference held on January 11 TASS.
Billström said he expects the kingdom to begin the process of ratifying Hungary and Turkey’s accession to NATO soon. He also emphasized that it is time for Sweden and Finland to fulfill their promises within the scope of the agreement they reached with Turkey.
Former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg declarationthat Sweden and Finland, which are waiting to join the alliance, have already begun to integrate into NATO military structures.
According to the Secretary-General, representatives of the two countries are already attending NATO meetings and taking part in various committees, both at ministerial level and at the level of permanent representatives.
Stoltenberg said the North Atlantic Alliance has already strengthened its presence in Northern Europe, and Helsinki and Stockholm have already received security guarantees from some of the organisation’s members.
