Former national security adviser to US President Donald Trump, John Bolton, expressed the view that Turkey’s NATO membership in 2023 could be questioned in the face of Turkish authorities’ reluctance to take a hardline anti-Russian stance on the conflict in Ukraine. It has been reported TASS.

Bolton believes that “the unity and determination of the West” will be truly tested in the near future.

He noted that Finland and Sweden had dramatically decided to join the North Atlantic Alliance. At the same time, the commercial and military partners of the Russian Federation, including Turkey, did not leave Russia. Bolton argues that if Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan is re-elected (possibly by fraud) (in the June elections), Turkey’s NATO membership should be questioned in 2023.

Former Finnish Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen declarationHe said his country could become a NATO member by July next year.

Prior to that, Turkish Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar said that Finland and Sweden did not take concrete steps to meet Ankara’s NATO accession requirements.
