State Duma approves projects on life imprisonment to create a destructive community

The State Duma State Building and Legislative Committee approved bills that would impose a life sentence for creating a destructive community. It has been reported DEA News with reference to the project text.

According to the agency, the committee also recommended that the Duma pass the bills at first reading. Lawmakers understand a subversive community as a group of people who come together in advance to prepare and commit one or more crimes.

The bill provides for “fifteen to twenty years’ imprisonment with a fine of up to 1 million rubles.” <…> or life imprisonment.”

In addition, the bill provides for the addition of two new articles to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – “assistance to subversive activities” (recruitment, financing) and “training for the purpose of carrying out destructive activities”. They are also sentenced to life imprisonment.
