On Thursday evening, President Andrzej Duda will go to Lithuania, where he will meet with the presidents of Lithuania, Latvia and Romania on Friday and participate in the international conference The Idea of ​​Europe organized by Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas.

Meeting of four presidents

The visit has a working character. The first point is the laying of a wreath on Friday morning at the monument to one of the initiators of the outbreak of the January Uprising in Lithuania, Fr. Antony Mackiewicz.

Then Andrzej Duda will be welcomed by the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Ginatas Nauseda, at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas before 10 am.

The Polish president will participate in the opening of the international conference The Idea of ​​Europe, organized as part of the celebration of the Kaunas 2022 European Capital of Culture. He will also speak at the presidential panel of the conference.

A meeting of the presidents of Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Romania is scheduled for around noon, followed by their statements to the media. In the afternoon, they attend a working breakfast hosted by President Nauseda.

The head of the Presidential Office of International Policy, Jakub Kumoch, stressed in an interview with PAP that The Idea of ​​Europe conference is all about the future of Europe.

It is no secret that all participating countries actively support and help Ukraine. So this is, in fact, a consultative meeting of the presidents of the countries of our region in light of what is currently happening in Ukraine, especially the massive bombings.

Poland is an important link that strengthens the region

As he said, this meeting will also be an opportunity to discuss with the presidents Poland’s role and the assistance it is providing to Ukraine, but also the possible consequences, “because we recently had the Przewodowo case.” “Presidents will probably want to hear about the background to this case,” the head of the President’s Office of International Policy noted.

At the moment, Poland is one of the most active countries, “the country that binds the region together”. “Because on the one hand it has very active contacts with the Baltic States during this war, on the other hand cooperation with the Czech Republic and Slovakia is important.
