Socialist Alejandro García, the current mayor of Monovar, will not choose to be re-elected by his own decision. He forwarded it himself this Friday afternoon during the extraordinary meeting of Monovar’s PSPV-PSOE to initiate the electoral mechanism before being appointed to the polls in May 2023.
“After twelve years in nine governments and four on the Monovar City Council, where I have served as mayor, in June of next year it will be time to leave the front lines of municipal politics and take the lead of a new candidate. Socialist project in our city. I have worked very comfortably with my colleagues over the years, but the time is not wasted and the energy is not the same. Therefore, I will continue to support my party and fight to improve the lives of my fellow countrymen, I have decided not to run for re-election and return to rank and file militancy.”
25 years membership
Alejandro Garcia stated “They have been affiliated with the Socialist Party for almost twenty-five years and I think we are in our best moment. I fully believe that the project we started in 2014 will continue in the next assembly, with a new candidate and a new team to continue the policies that have stabilized the Consistory, after a decade of PP-led coalitions that have driven the economy. The municipality will almost collapse. Fortunately, this is history, and the people have regained their trust in the City Council thanks to socialist governments, whether alone or in coalition. But there is still much to be done and we must continue to work, but for myself I will do this by making my best contribution from the monovera socialist group, not from Plaça de la Sala anymore”.
On these words, Natxo Vidal, general secretary of the monovero socialists, recognized the work of Alejandro García before the assembly. “He’s been an excellent mayor and an excellent partner. In such a difficult time, he has spent all his time and effort developing our city and leading the local economy by example, and he is ultimately responsible for our economic recovery. We have worked closely throughout the legislature, which is a very complex legislature because of covid or the war, which is positive for Monovar and receives my full support and appreciation as I know all the local militancy is there as well.”
Natxo Vidal then informed the assembly that the local administrator, the governing body of the monoveros, would propose Loren Amat as a candidate for the PSOE. Vidal for him “It also represents the best of these nine years of local government: integrity, hard work, commitment, capacity for transformation, affiliation or empathy. He knows the town like few people and his commitment to the environment, heritage, life, culture or the sustainable development of our city is unquestionable.”.
“Illusions and projects”
Later, Loren Amat addressed the militants to state:I am coming to our city full of projects, with all the experience and excitement I have gained in the last eight years in local government, in order to continue the socialist project that has given such good results recently.”. Finally, he encouraged militancy with these words:There is still much to be done and with your effort and our commitment we will make it possible.”.
Thus began the preparatory work for Monovar’s socialist candidacy, which should now focus on the preparation of the full electoral list, which will be approved later, or the proposal by which he will run in the next elections.
