The president of the 6th Training Court in Valencia sued Sergio Blasco, the former director of the General Hospital, and eleven others on charges of embezzlement, management fraud, influence trading, fraud and bribery. Hospital between 2005-2014 according to an instruction communicated to the parties. The case against Rafael Blasco, former Minister of Health and Sergio Blasco’s uncle, was tentatively dismissed on the grounds that “his involvement did not appear sufficiently justified”.
The events began to be investigated after Esquerra Unida’s former MP Marina Albiol filed a complaint in 2014 that led to the first searches and arrests in March 2017. According to the indictment, Sergio Blasco, former director of the General Hospital, created a network of companies and individuals who illegally took advantage of the awarding of public contracts to familiar companies to collect direct and indirect commissions, and these companies outsourced services and jobs to other companies in the network.
The network of companies was organized at three levels. The first company formed by Out-Log, Maintenance Integral Turia and Connectall Systems SL received awards of approximately 33 million Euros from General Hospital. The second level “consisted of companies doing mixed business and entering 2 million euros into contracts and 600,000 euros from subcontractors. Third-level merchants “lack of real economic activity”, but received more than one million euros from subcontractors and served to pay the private expenses of Sergio Blasco, his family, and others on the land.
