Closing night of the L’Alcúdia Classical Theater Festival, which started in 2013 with the initiative of UA, and a well-deserved homage to the newly retired Cultural Service technician Carmen Giner. God Eros, with all its expressions, symbolizes the attraction, the love that moves the world. The text by José María del Castillo, co-directed with Antonio Rincón-Cano and Benjamín Leiva, provides the choreography of a versatile group that includes Del Castillo, Héctor Garijo, Guillermo de los Santos and Alejandro Molina. They are very dedicated to their purpose, performing the changing roles with vocal and physical forms and effects that want to surprise.
Penelope is the legend of the woman waiting. The crazy love of Helen of Troy. Vengeful Medea or passionate Phaedra. There is a populist mood and discursive ostentation. The feeling of love “appears when the beholder sees beyond the eyes of the other.” Narrative modes join arms, turns, and footworks of flamenco passion. And various music styles with some songs.
Romeo and Juliet, jealous Othello or Carmen, romantic symbol of femme fatale. The vulgar psychotherapeutic parody has the insane Don Quixote, who evokes the madness of Hamlet-loving Ofelia, the lover Adela (Bernardo Alba’s daughter) or Dulcinea.
Cherubs interact with a large audience in a lengthy montage that does not contribute to the foundations. Music and arrangements by Alejandro Cruz, lighting design by Miguel Guirao. Man and woman. Both together. Scores and trunks are in the air. Souls that will reincarnate. People. The mother’s voice (Natalia Millán) confirms: “Love freely whoever you want”.
