This 2022 has been declared the Year of Fuster by the Generalitat Valenciana to laud the figure and legacy of the great intellectual Joan Fuster on the centennial of her birth. Classical music and Nova Cançó played an important role in his career, and from there comes the spectacle around the artistic and musical movement in Catalonia that supports Catalan and condemns the injustices of Francoism from the second half of the fifties.
It was of notable importance during the Spanish Transition, as noted in “El tocadiscos de Joan Fuster”, with its writing and updated music direction by singer-songwriter Pau Alabajos. A selection of essayist-written texts from Sueca in this meeting or dramatized interview with characters played by reliable and friendly Alfred Picó and young and friendly journalist Lara Salvador.
With Fuster’s definitive irony, reasonable skepticism, humanism, and criticism manifest themselves in social, political, and musical questions. It’s an expression of today’s aspects and a time when there was something to build. It is never fully built.
Musicians Laura Navarro, Enrique Jerónimo, Adriana Sena, David Barberá and Anaís Bueno take part in intimate passages under Gabriel Ochoa’s tight stage management. Strings, a keyboard and soft drums. The theatrical, dramaturgical, interpretive, and scenographic planes of representation escape realistic design, and reason prevails over emotion.
The beautiful voices of Pau Alabajos, especially Feliu Ventura and Sandra Momfort sing the emblematic songs of Raimon, Lluís Llach, Maria del Mar Bonet, Ovidi Monllort, the popular musical group Al Tall or Quico Pi de la Serra. “Diguem no”, “Companys, no és això”, “Que volen aquesta gent?”, “M’aclame a tu”, “Que vinga la llum” or finally, “L’estaca” by Llach, a symbol Teatre The struggle for freedom by three singers to please the enthusiastic audience attending Arniches.
