The court ordered searches and the arrest of a 27-year-old abuser after he reportedly entered Topas to face a 23-month prison sentence for multiple acts of gender-based violence. He admitted to the murder in the first days after the birth of his child, at the Virgen de la Concha Hospital, where his former partner remained hospitalized.

Neighbors recalled that he was allegedly held by the hair, and that he approached to meet his newborn, confronting his ex-partner on March 5, 2020. Witness accounts note that after an initial argument he delivered two forceful slaps, occurring without any provocation from the victim.

About an hour and a half later, the individual identified by initials ADMN, a resident of the Los Blocks neighborhood, reportedly grabbed his former partner by the hair again and forced her against a wall when she tried to calm the situation and return home. A mutual friend who came to check on the woman after she had given birth witnessed the assault.

One week afterward, the harasser visited the victim’s home at 11:30 and struck her on the right cheekbone and ear twice. He allegedly threatened her with statements such as, “Now I’ll give you another one in front of the girl, and they’ll think I’m something.” The victim is the daughter of the couple, now six years old. On the next day, August 13, 2020, the violent behavior continued as the young man was arrested and remanded to preventive custody, remaining there until the hearing on January 27, 2021. The victim reported an earache and a rash on her cheekbone, with wounds taking several days to heal.

deportation to Portugal

Aggressive conduct led the Gender-Based Violence Tribunal to consider deportation to Portugal. The request came from the Gender-Based Violence Prosecutor’s Office to prevent the perpetrator from approaching the ex-partner, whose risk status had been flagged by the VioGen system.

Even so, the victim faced continued risk as she initially disregarded the court order and returned to Zamora. She submitted a formal request for a measure to permanently locate the individual until his imprisonment, but the court could not implement it at that time. The National Police have since been tasked with locating the suspect. He is described as tall, with blonde hair and a slender build.

The criminal proceedings led to a conviction on three counts of gender-based violence, with the prosecutor acknowledging that the defendant committed the crimes as described by the former partner and accurately documented by the court. The same prosecutor who requested deportation to Portugal’s authorities is cited in the case.

He did not voluntarily surrender to Topas

Efforts continue by the National Police and Civil Guard to locate the offender. The individual in question had to report to Topas as a voluntary participant after the court informed him of a 23-month sentence for habitual misconduct. He faced a four-year restriction from approaching the victim and a prohibition on any form of communication, directly or through third parties, as well as a four-year disqualification from possessing weapons.

The most recent hearing involved a new accusation of sexist violence tied to the child’s case against the mother, with a trial held in November 2023. Two months later, the Criminal Court ruled that the man be declared a fugitive and ordered immediate arrest and a 23-month prison sentence.

Meanwhile, the defendant had been released following another hearing related to a separate restraint-order violation in July 2023. The victim reported that, in August 2022, while she and their son were at La Marina park, she had to call the National Police to ensure her safety as she could not maintain contact with the ex-partner.

Women facing gender-based violence are advised to contact a free helpline for information and guidance, or to reach out to the court, the National Police, or the Civil Guard for assistance.
