The prize highlights the work of scientists, journalists, educators, and industry partners who demonstrably advance scientific knowledge, celebrate domestic achievements, and help translate research into public value. The selection process combines public nominations, expert evaluation, and transparent decision making to honor individuals and teams who raise the profile of science in society. The event is organized with the support of major national institutions, reflecting a shared commitment to nurturing scientific culture across Russia and beyond. The Science Pledge Award recognizes excellence in science communication and outreach. Rooted in the Decade of Science and Technology announced by the President, the award has grown into a central project that links national policy aims with everyday understanding of science. In the current cycle the prize comprises nine nominations, four of which are new: Author of Digital Content, Recognition, Special Award named after Christopher Ledentsov, and Science for Children. These categories honor authors, editors, and digital creators who translate complex ideas into accessible narratives, as well as programs that spark curiosity in younger audiences. The nine nominations collectively celebrate rigorous storytelling, evidence-based messaging, and tangible contributions to public dialogue about research and innovation.
People eligible to participate include journalists who cover Russian science, science communicators who make ideas accessible, scientists who bridge research and popular audiences, and business leaders who connect discovery to practical applications. Professionals across media, education, industry, and public service are invited to enter. An expert council, drawing on journalists, scientists, representatives of public institutions, foundations, companies, NGOs, and the press offices of universities and research institutes, reviews submissions. The results are announced by the Prize Organizing Committee, ensuring a balanced, transparent process that respects merit and impact.
Organizers and partners include the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation; the Russian Academy of Sciences; the National Research Center of the Kurchatov Institute; and Lomonosov Moscow State University. The Charitable Foundation for Arts, Science and Sports provides support. The founders of the special prizes are Roscosmos, Rosatom, and Rostec.
