Wagner Founder’s Posthumous Enrollment of a War Correspondent and Subsequent Attack in St. Petersburg

The founder of the private military company Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, after his death, announced that military correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky, whose real name is Maxim Fomin, had been admitted to the ranks of the PMC. This information was disclosed by the press service of Prigozhin in a Telegram channel.

Tatarsky was last in St. Petersburg on April 2, where he died during a terrorist attack.

A document signed by Prigozhin indicated that Fomin joined Wagner as a fighter on April 2, 2023, with the consent of his family and by a decision of the board of command. The signatory explained that this step was taken to ensure that the deceased’s relatives would receive compensation and the social support that is provided to the fallen soldiers of the private military company.

The events took place on April 2 in a cafe on Universitetskaya Embankment in St. Petersburg, where an explosion occurred. The incident left Tatarsky dead and more than 30 others injured. Daria Trepova, aged 26, was detained on suspicion of involvement in the attack.

Information about the case circulated online, including posts from St. Petersburg that referenced Trepova and the cafe where she was observed prior to the incident.
