Valencia County Court Convicts Man of Murder in a Fatal March 2019 Incident

Valencia County Court handed down a ten year prison sentence after a jury found that a man caused the death of a 50‑year‑old woman during a confrontation on a bar terrace in Valencia’s Campanar district in March 2019. The verdict stated that Javier VF pushed the victim after following her into the living area of the farmhouse where she lived with a transgender friend. The act led to the woman hitting him in the head, and the court accepted the claim that death was very likely as a result of the action taken.

The jury did not establish that María del Carmen lost consciousness due to being run over by the defendant. However, it did find that she left the scene without notifying emergency services. An ambulance arrived but the woman declined hospital treatment.

Despite the refusal, the jury linked the defendant’s act directly to the woman’s death. He had lose consciousness in the bathroom of his home, and his mother and son found him there early in the morning of March 25, 2019. He was immediately transported to a hospital, where he remained in a severe state and slipped into a coma.

The sentence notes that the progression of the epidural and subdural hematomas she suffered was a consequence of the head injury inflicted during the assault, which ultimately caused María del Carmen’s death on March 27, three days after the brutal attack.

The Convicted Man Was Detained on Trial Day in Connection with a Separate Violent Incident

A person believed to be the same suspect was arrested after he testified on the first day of the trial for another violent act. That incident involved forcing a woman to stop attacking her emotional partner, with both the defendant and the friend allegedly pulling the partner by the hair. Jurors, however, found no proof that the defendant acted with intent to prevent further aggression against the partner in question.

The court considered the extents of mitigating circumstances, noting a disturbance related to alcohol and drug use that potentially diminished the defendant’s impulse control. The judge also referenced the defendant’s history in relation to the case and the broader context of violent behavior.

The final judgment imposes a ten year term for murder, exceeding the nine years proposed by prosecutors. The Valencian Provincial Court further ordered the convicted man to pay 150,000 euros in compensation to María del Carmen’s son and mother, who were represented by a private prosecutor.

Subsequent reporting indicated that the accused had been arrested earlier by police in connection with another violent attack, an attempted murder. The incident occurred under similar circumstances to the case at hand and involved a knife, as reported by the regional press outlet Levante-EMV of the Prensa Ibérica group.
