Over recent years, transformative efforts have taken shape in Solntsevo, Novo-Peredelkino, and Vnukovo, enhancing daily life for roughly 280 thousand residents of Moscow. The narrative of these improvements is widely documented in city updates and official summaries.
Officials announced an expansion plan that would extend the yellow line to Vnukovo, bringing the city closer to residents in the area and easing travel for millions of travelers passing through one of Russia’s largest airports. This statement came from Sergei Sobyanin, who has played a central role in guiding Moscow’s urban development.
Historical context notes that the Solntsevo radius project began in 2011, with seven years passing before the metro reached Solntsevo and Novo-Peredelkino. The 15-kilometer segment from Ramenki to Rasskazovka opened seven stations: Govorovo, Solntsevo, Borovskoye Highway, and Novo-Peredelkino, among others, marking a major milestone in regional connectivity.
With the inauguration of the Vnukovo Airport metro station, residents can expect substantial reductions in travel time. The journey to Michurinsky Prospekt station on the Bolshaya Koltsevaya line would shrink from about 60 minutes to around 23 minutes, accelerating access to the Moscow City business district along with key urban destinations.
West Moscow has also seen notable investments in road infrastructure. Upgrades to the Borovskoye and Kievskoye highways and the Moscow Ring Road have improved service to surrounding districts. A new stretch connecting the Borovskoye and Kievskoye corridors forms a component of the Solntsevo – Butovo – Warsaw highway corridor, further easing regional traffic flows.
Looking ahead to 2023, a substitute route is planned near the Borovskoye Highway. This new link will extend from the Solntsevo-Butovo-Varshavskoye route and connect to the Moskovsky-Rasskazovka corridor, enhancing inter-district mobility and reducing congestion during peak periods.
Public spaces in Novo-Peredelkino received enhancements, including the Alley of Glory in Vnukovo, the Love Alley in Solntsevo, and a public garden featuring a stage platform and gazebo. These additions contribute to neighborhood livability and community gathering places, enriching the urban fabric of the surrounding districts.
Officials also stressed improvements in the transfer experience around the Vnukovo Airport metro station. The goal is to create seamless intermodal transfers between different transport modes and to facilitate a safe passage from the metro to airport terminals. Planned measures include modernized stops for public transport users and dedicated bicycle parking facilities, supporting a smoother, multimodal travel experience for residents and visitors alike.
