The expert projected temperatures dipping to minus 47 to minus 51 degrees Celsius in some zones. He stressed that the unusually cold spell would persist through January 1, bringing frosty conditions across the Northwestern Federal District as the year winds down. In the Arkhangelsk region, frost was expected to reach seven to eleven degrees below normal, with some nights seeing temperatures as low as minus twenty five. In the Murmansk region, frost events were forecast to run eighteen to twenty four degrees below the seasonal norm. The Komi and Vologda regions were also anticipated to experience frost levels up to twenty two to twenty five degrees below typical values.
The Far East was not spared from the arctic chill either. Vilfand cautioned that Yakutia could see temperatures as low as minus fifty one degrees between December twenty seventh and thirty first. In the Magadan region, subzero conditions could drop by up to forty seven degrees, while Chukotka could face chill values around minus forty eight. Kamchatka was expected to face reductions near minus thirty six, and in the Khabarovsk Territory, temperatures could fall to about minus forty four. Sakhalin was forecast to encounter lows near minus twenty seven, and in the Amur region minus forty one was a possible threshold.
The weather outlook was described as unusually harsh and dangerous. Residents across these regions were advised to stay indoors during peak cold periods and to avoid unnecessary travel outside the home as the cold intensified toward the New Year. The forecast highlighted how essential it was to prepare for extreme conditions, including securing shelter, warm clothing, and supplies in advance of any outdoor activities or travel plans.
