Unicaja Banco and the American technology services firm Kyndryl have announced a long-term contract to renovate and centrally manage the bank’s technology platform. The agreement aims to deliver efficiency improvements, operational excellence, and faster service delivery to customers, according to Kyndryl.

Kyndryl stands as one of the globe’s leading IT infrastructure service providers. The company designs, builds, operates, and modernizes complex, mission-critical information systems that organizations rely on daily. With nearly 90,000 employees, Kyndryl serves more than 4,000 customers across more than 60 countries, and about three-quarters of its customer base sits within the Fortune 100. In this collaboration, Kyndryl will support Unicaja Banco in its technological evolution by creating new processes, procedures, and tools that increase automation and industrialization of technology services. The contract encompasses a broad transformation of operations and a future-facing modernization, including important data-center infrastructure at the heart of the center.

A hybrid cloud

The agreement enables Unicaja Banco to implement a hybrid cloud strategy. Kyndryl will build a private cloud and manage coexistence with major public cloud platforms. The resulting architecture is designed to deliver greater agility in responding to evolving market needs and to provide clients with the latest digital banking innovations. This approach positions Unicaja Banco to scale capabilities and rapidly adopt new financial technology offerings while maintaining robust controls and security.

Both organizations celebrated the alliance. As stated by Isidro Rubiales, CEO of Unicaja Banco, the agreement ensures the bank remains at the forefront of technological infrastructure, with ongoing, secure updates and evolution. The collaboration is expected to drive operational excellence and continuous process improvements.

David Soto, president for Spain and Portugal at Kyndryl, highlighted the arrangement as a significant milestone for Unicaja Banco within the Spanish financial landscape. He noted that Kyndryl professionals bring the necessary talent and experience to modernize technology, boost efficiency, and enhance service quality for customers. (Source: Kyndryl press materials)

Unicaja Banco, part of the Ibex 35, operates with a close alignment to sustainable business practices. Serving around four million customers through a network of about a thousand branches and five hundred financial agencies, the bank holds a leading position in six autonomous communities (Andalusia, Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, and Extremadura) and maintains a presence in other markets such as Madrid, Ceuta, and Melilla.
