Umivale Activa, a joint collaborator with Social Security, reported positive financial results for the most recent year, highlighting a revenue figure near 1.438 million euros largely driven by social security contributions. The organization also disclosed a substantial rise in net income, with earnings reaching 54.54 million euros, reflecting a 72% increase from the previous period. These figures underscore a track record of steady growth and operational efficiency, reinforcing the mutual’s role in safeguarding workers while supporting the broader social protection framework.

The detailed results were presented at a plenary session in Valencia, where the accounts for the year were approved. During the session, the leadership of Umivale Activa outlined plans to strengthen the institution’s financial resilience, including the allocation of 369.66 million euros to the reserve fund. Additionally, 90.50 million euros were earmarked for transfer to the public coffers managed by SGK, aligning with strategic commitments to fiscal discipline and public accountability.

Commenting on the performance, Ana Benavides, serving as reciprocal chairperson on behalf of Banco Santander, noted that the figures demonstrate sound governance and place the mutual among sector benchmarks for efficiency. Benavides presided over the gathering, which was attended by Salvador Navarro, president of CEV and vice president of CEOE, and Héctor Blasco, the general manager, who contributed to the discussion on the organization’s strategic priorities and governance practices.

protection of workers

According to the Corporate Governance Report, Umivale Activa protects more than 1,523,000 employees through a network of over 107,200 affiliated entities, marking a significant footprint within the mutual sector. The figures place Umivale Activa sixth in the industry by quota volume, a reflection of its extensive coverage and service reach. Benavides highlighted the health network, which comprises 113 centers across the country and a team of more than 1,600 specialists, underscoring the organization’s capability to deliver robust occupational health services and timely care to workers nationwide.

In the past year, Umivale Activa reported economic benefits exceeding 1,006 million euros in social security insurance coverage for occupational and ordinary contingencies, as well as other protective measures such as pregnancy and breastfeeding benefits, support for caring for a sick child, and arrangements for self-employed workers facing interruptions. This broad spectrum of protections reflects the mutual’s commitment to comprehensive worker welfare and risk mitigation across different life circumstances.

addressing absenteeism and sustainability

During the proceedings, the president of Umivale Activa addressed concerns about absenteeism trends, noting a challenging year with the national absenteeism rate reaching an all-time high in 2022. He pointed out that temporary disability accounted for a notable portion of lost hours, with a 5.30% drop in agreed hours in Spain that year. This marked a sharp rise compared with 2019, the pre-pandemic baseline, and reflected a broader challenge to the continuity of work and the sustainability of the social protection system. The remarks emphasized that high absenteeism strains company operations, economic health, and the long-term viability of the public social security framework.

Benavides stressed that persistent absenteeism threatens business continuity, the vitality of the economy, and the resilience of social protection mechanisms. The discussion highlighted the need for targeted interventions, improved health management, and proactive employer engagement to restore stability and protect workers’ welfare without compromising financial sustainability.

Umivale Activa also announced a significant investment aimed at expanding access to care: a commitment of 958,000 euros to establish a new center in Torrevieja. This expansion aligns with the mutual’s objective of maintaining a broad, high-quality health service network that can promptly respond to worker needs and reduce gaps in access to care, contributing to a lighter burden on the national health system. The expansion is framed as part of a wider effort to strengthen clinical infrastructure and improve service delivery for the working population.

As part of its ongoing social mission, the General Assembly recognized the Bequal Plus seal granted by the Bequal Foundation. This certification identifies socially responsible companies that actively support disability inclusion and accessibility, reinforcing Umivale Activa’s commitment to inclusive, equitable practices in the workplace and in its service delivery models.
