After weeks of relative calm near the front, a fresh Russian offensive targeted ten Ukrainian areas early yesterday, including the capital Kyiv and major cities Kharkiv and Odesa, according to Ukrainian authorities.

The assault involved dozens of cruise missiles fired from the Black Sea, aimed at electrical infrastructure and other critical systems.

In Kyiv, about 15 percent of residents lost power, as reported by the electricity company, and similar outages were noted in Odesa, which lies in the south of the country.

Some missiles struck residential areas, igniting fires and damaging cars. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko posted that there were burning cars in the courtyard of a residential building and announced injuries from the strikes. “The enemy has launched fifteen attacks on the city and the region”, said Kharkiv Governor Oleh Synyehubov on Telegram, noting the missiles hit essential infrastructure.

Serhiy Kovalenko, head of the electricity company Yasno, said emergency outages were implemented in a preventive manner to stabilize the grid after the attack.

periodic interruptions

During the winter, millions of Ukrainians faced recurring power outages caused by Russian bombardment, with the grid repeatedly stressed by strikes on generation and transmission facilities.

Ukraine has strengthened core infrastructure protection with Western anti-aircraft systems, helping to restore and shield the power supply after disruptions.
