In Barcelona, a judge named Beatriz García-Valdecasas handed down a sentence totaling two and a half years of imprisonment in a case centered on financial fraud and forged documents. The defendant, Angela Dobrowolski, a former partner of the audiovisual producer and ex-member of La Trinca Josep Maria Mainat, was found guilty of unlawfully drawing 4,100 euros from Mainat’s bank account by forging his signature on two checks. The appellate court maintained the charge of false documents and imposed a 1,800 euro fine. Dobrowolski faces another trial for an alleged attempt on Mainat’s life in June 2020, involving an insulin overdose while the singer slept. If the sentence is upheld, she would serve the prison term still outstanding.
The court found indications that Dobrowolski took possession of a checkbook in August 2020 to gain an unfair advantage in an inheritance dispute with Mainat, who was separated from his spouse. Without the producer’s consent, the defendant filled out one of the checks in her own handwriting and named her sister as the beneficiary while forging Mainat’s signature. The judge highlighted that on August 7, the defendant herself visited a bank branch to present the fraudulent instrument. In this scenario, the fake check appeared to be issued to the sister, who presented her DNI and signatures to complete the transaction.
repeated action
Only days later, the court noted, another fraudulent draft appeared under Mainat’s name, this time for 2,900 euros, made out to Dobrowolski’s sister and dated August 10, 2020. On August 13, the accused returned to the same bank branch, sought to cash the second check by presenting her sister’s identity and forging the back-of-check signature once more. The pattern suggested a deliberate scheme to exploit Mainat’s finances during a period of separation and strain between the two parties.
In the recent proceedings, Mainat withdrew from the case as special prosecutor. He argued that the bank had previously reclaimed the funds that had been fraudulently obtained and chose to focus on the ongoing investigation into the alleged assassination attempt. Dobrowolski, who already faces another open case for sending a text message to Mainat in violation of a court injunction, has accepted a 17-month sentence for disobeying the injunction and trespass. Reports indicate she climbed a wall in an attempt to breach the producer’s residence in January of the previous year.
