John Francis Vargas, father of Yeremi Vargas, appeared in court on a Wednesday following a complaint of gender-based violence. He was released after a judge at the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria No. 2 Court of Violence Against Women reviewed the case, which had been filed by his partner. The case was transferred to the Court of San Bartolomé de Tirajana for continued investigation, since the alleged events occurred outside the southern jurisdiction and the judicial party determined the matter lay beyond the original venue.

According to Vargas’ attorney, a restraining order remained in effect as a precaution, requiring him not to approach the victim within 500 meters, nor to come near the victim’s home or frequenting locations. The lawyer also noted that the couple had separated, so the peace of the woman would be preserved, and the investigation would not be restricted by their not sharing a municipality of residence.

Yeremi Vargas’ father has been missing since 2007 and was last seen in Vecindario, near his home. The mother of his emotional partner condemned the actions in a video and stated he would appear yesterday at the Civil Guard barracks in the southeast. The arrest followed reports of alleged gender-based violence, with agents alleging repeated mistreatment by Juan Francisco Vargas. He was taken into custody and later transferred to a police station in the southern part of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Ithaisa Suárez asks not to confuse the facts with her son’s disappearance in 2007 in a video

Investigations now proceed in the Court of Violence Against Women in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, which will summon the investigative team to testify because they did not testify before the Gran Canaria capital court yesterday. A withdrawal decision was made, and the testimony is scheduled according to the court’s agenda on pending matters. It is recalled that nearly a year ago Vargas was released on parole after two complaints involving alleged sexual abuse of minors.

there is nothing to see

Following the news of her partner’s arrest, Ithaisa Suarez, Yeremi Vargas’ mother, posted a video asserting that her former partner bears no relation to their son’s disappearance. She clarified that she was not the one who filed the Civil Guard complaint and denounced people who shared her photo in connection with the case. She emphasized that the portrayal in some posts is inaccurate and insisted she is raising her voice to counter misinformation.

Suárez stated that recent months’ developments regarding the father of her two children, Yeremi and Aidan, have nothing to do with the boy’s disappearance fifteen years ago. She added that she would not comment further on any gender-based violence accusations and argued that the family turmoil has affected their other child. Her message was clear: the situation is getting out of control.

Two additional legal cases involve alleged sexual abuse of minors

Juan Francisco Vargas currently faces two other legal proceedings, which could be augmented by this latest case. About a year ago, his 13-year-old daughter filed a police complaint alleging sexual abuse. She later chose not to testify before the Sentinel Court, which nonetheless released him with charges and a temporary restraining order protecting the victim following an emotional dispute with Yeremi Vargas’ mother. A few days afterward, upon learning of the incident through media reports, the daughter of a former partner disclosed a similar incident to her sister. She told her mother, who filed a separate complaint in Fuerteventura. Investigators note that both cases share common elements and lend credence to the minors’ accounts. Both cases remain under court review, with a decision pending on whether the person under investigation should be formally charged and brought to trial.

Sources: Civil Guard records and court proceedings related to these investigations indicate ongoing scrutiny and evolving charges as the judicial process advances.
